Dr. Roger Wood Special Care Clinic
Overview
The Dr. Roger Wood Special Care Clinic at Virginia Commonwealth University is a two-chair facility designed to provide high-quality, compassionate care in a sensory-adaptive environment. We provide care for adults with developmental and acquired disabilities.
Care is delivered by a single dentist working in collaboration with dental and dental hygiene students, all under the close supervision of experienced faculty. This team-based approach ensures safe, effective, and compassionate care.

Questions can be emailed to woodclinic@vcu.edu.
If accepted as a patient, you will be contacted to schedule a new patient intake phone call as well as a teledentistry initial assessment appointment. This assessment will help us better support your needs during your in-person dental appointment. To provide the best possible care, we require detailed information about each patient’s medical, dental, and behavioral history. This information guides us in tailoring treatment plans and ensuring clinical appropriateness. A thorough review of your medical and dental history will be obtained during the new patient intake call. Please make sure to provide us with a current medication list, list of diagnoses, and surgical history.
An in-person clinic appointment will be scheduled after the intake call and teledentistry appointment. An exam and x-rays may be attempted during this visit. A dental cleaning and other treatments will be provided at later appointments.
Patients who do not require specialized care or do not fit the patient or treatment criteria for the Roger Wood Clinic will be referred to other appropriate VCU School of Dentistry clinics.
