The VCU School of Dentistry is committed to developing new treatments for diseases of the head and neck. We have a wide range of research interests. Faculty, residents, dental, dental hygiene and graduate students all contribute towards our research endeavours. Our research is showcased in our annual Research Day in April and in our research newsletter, the Dental Investigator. Student researchers present their work at national and international conferences.
Biomedical research is carried out in the Philips Institute for Oral Health Research focusing on cancer, infectious diseases and tissue regeneration. Students in our Ph.D. program and MS program are based in the Philips Institute.
Our General Practice department has a wide range of clinical and dental materials research and all our clinical departments conduct research in their specialty areas. More information on these research areas can be found on our faculty research pages.
Students interested in research can take elective courses to train them in research design and execution.
The School of Dentistry Office of Research provides assistance to faculty, residents and students on all aspects of research including identification of funding sources, completion of IRB and grant applications and post-award processing and grants management. The office also administers our internal grants and fellowships for students, residents and faculty.
